Become a nurse practitioner

At MGH Institute of Health Professions, healthcare is our singular area of focus—integrating classroom learning with research and clinical experience. Our three-year Direct Entry Master of Science in Nursing (DEN-Masters) program, which is ranked 2nd  in Massachusetts by U.S. News & World Report, is designed for individuals who hold a non-nursing bachelor’s degree and want to enter the field of nursing.

Why Choose Our Programs?

  • Work While Learning: During your first three semesters, you'll take prelicensure nursing courses and build foundational knowledge necessary for passing the National Council Licensure Examination (NCLEX-RN). You can then work part-time as a registered nurse, gaining valuable clinical experience while completing the requirements to become a nurse practitioner.
  • 100% First-Time Pass Rate: Our entire current DEN class of 87 students passed the NCLEX on the first try, highlighting the effective preparation and readiness of all individuals within the cohort for licensure as registered nurses.
  • MGB-Focused Placements: Over 90% of our students complete most of their prelicensure placements at MGB, providing a comprehensive and immersive learning experience.
  • Extensive Clinical Network: Access over 600 clinical placement sites across our expansive network, enhancing your hands-on experience.
  • Unique Specializations: Choose from six unique specialty options to tailor your education to your career goals.

The Nurse Practitioner program at the MGH Institute was very high-level learning and really challenged me to grow, to think differently, and gave me a fantastic foundation in assessment, diagnosis, care plan delivery, putting the patient at the center of what we do and really looking to understand the person and not just treating the disease.

The Institute is an ideal place for students to continue their nursing journey because of the amazing faculty and curriculum. The IHP is going to match you with really good clinical placements, which make up a huge part of your education. And it's in a beautiful location in Boston. The networking opportunities through Mass General Brigham are amazing. I highly recommend the Institute.
